When approached by Dave for a new logo for his photography business I was flattered. Dave is not only an amazing and professional photographer, but good friend.
The goal of this design project was to combine a subtle aspect of photography, with the client name. I wanted to put the emphasis on the client name rather than photography iconography as Dave's photography business was already well established and wasn't in need of imagery that specified the kinds of work that he does. The focus instead was on incorporating an aspect of photography into the typography.
I settled on the idea of taking three circles placed in such a way as to suggest lenses facing up in a camera bag. From there it was simply a matter of making strong custom typography for the DG initials. DG incidentally is how some of us in Dave's circle of friends reference him in text messages as to differentiate Dave Green from all the other Dave's we know. DG always means Dave Green.
